Life Lately | March 2014

March was one of those months when I look back and can't believe I did all of the things that I did and with just amazing people! There was so much time spent with amazing friends with some really really great weekends. Honestly we dominated our weekends this month. I mean, we made beer. Pretty awesome I'd say. And as you can see this month was a bit full of beverages...of all kinds.

Also, there are so many things that I look back on this month and can't help but smile to myself. Or laugh at the ridiculous things that happened. Right now I seriously feel so full and blessed and just happy.

I hope that your March treated you the same! Now, bring it, April.

Stone Creek Coffee

Anthony and I had a bit of work to get done today so we headed over to the new (ok not really that new-opened in September) Stone Creek Coffee over in the 5th Ward. It's connected to the 88.9 Radio Milwaukee studios. They did a little partnering so that guests of the studio would have a place to chill out. And why not have local music and local coffee under the same roof?

A and I are big fans and will now be frequenting here quite a bit. And also that barista is the cutest, amiright?

Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Wednesday!

Happy Wednesday all! I've had a lot of free time this week so I've been catching up on cleaning and responding to emails and just and all around tidy. All the while listening to music and I'm so happy that I've rediscovered my love for Amy Winehouse! Seriously, that soul.
I don't have many words today, but I thought I would leave you with that.

Loves you.

Banana Pancakes

These banana pancakes were one of the best parts of my weekend! It's really very easy. Just add two smashed up bananas to pancakes for two. The trick is to fry in a pan with oil instead of butter so you will get the most crunchy edges and the fluffiest insides. Add that pat of butter, syrup, and extra banana slices and then sing Jack Johnson
This was my Saturday and it was wonderful.

I hope you had wonderful weekend!

Happy Friday! | Eleven Questions

Photo from a run at dusk a few weeks back.

Happy Friday guys! I am SO excited about this weekend. I have few pretty fun things plan - fish tacos tonight at Bel Air (at least I'm still hoping this is happening - having some major cravings), brunch tomorrow, and a little shopping on Saturday. Beer bottling on Sunday!
Really I'm excited for like the next week and a half -- Spring Break next week which means some relaxation and a lot of cleaning. And I  have a Photo-shoot. You guyyss, like a real life Photo-shoot with a real life Photographer. GAH! I can't even contain myself!

Last week I was tagged in an Eleven Questions post by the lovely (she is seriously so sweet, people) Jade at Earth to Jade. I had done one of these posts in the past, (actually, by another Jade!)  but I thought it would be fun to do it again. I love questionnaires!!

1) Most of us, if not all, are travellers or love travelling. Where's your favourite destination in the world?

My favorite destination that I've been to is Antigua, Guatemala. I lived there for a summer while studying in college and I absolutely fell in love with the beautiful colonial town.

2) What are your favourite travel blogs?
I really love Jennifer Chong. Her blog is normally a design blog, but lately she has been posting many photos of her travels. Her photos are gorgeous. And Argentina.

3) What's the best experience you've ever had?
The best (and also the worst) experience I've ever had was during my last year or two of college when I realized I for sure did not want to be a teacher. I was in my junior year and it just seemed silly to transfer out and lose all of my credits. I decided to push through and finish out my degree with student teaching and all training for the double education major. It was super hard to finish it up knowing that I didn't want to teach in the end, but it was extremely fulfilling looking back and seeing how hard I worked despite it all. And now I'm working in education (although, not teaching) and using Spanish everyday and I'm unbelievably happy.

4) What did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was really young I wanted to be a veterinarian. I feel like that is one of those dreams that all of the animal-obsessed children have. You know, like the big-time zoo animal type of veterinarian. Obviously that didn't happen and I can barely keep succulents alive. We did take a lot of trips to the zoo though!

5) What's your favourite movie?
My favorite movie is for sure the Princess Bride. I just think it's hilarious! And also The Devil Wears Prada. Seriously, I watch it during every sick day!

6) If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money?
I would probably be mostly practical and pay off student loans, put down payment on a house, invest a little, help with some family finances, and then maybe set some aside to just blow on travel or clothing. I mean let's be real. ;)

7) If you had the chance to go to space, would you? Why or why not?
Absolutely not. There is no way, ever, that I would do that. I hate flying even. (Love travelling - hate flying. Weird, I know.) And just Google space-craft disasters...

8) Are you a dog or a cat person or neither?
I'm for sure a dog person. I used to love cats and even begged my mom for one for my 5th birthday. Then I grew up and acquired an allergy and the cats lived for far too long and it was just traumatizing. And dog's don't make me sneeze and they actually care about me.

9) If someone described you in three words or less, what would they be?
I'm never good at answering these with my own words so I asked some of the ladies...
Bethany - bubbly, original, loyal.
Bri - energetic, spicy (in a good way), adventure seeker.
Sarah - loyal, quirky, passionate.
Emily - independent, affectionate, loyal

10) What's your guilty pleasure?
Ok, this is a loaded gun because I have multiple and let's face it I do not feel guilty.
Beyonce, my affinity to pop culture, and food. Like greasy - I don't care my inner fat-kid is coming out obsession with food.

11) How do you take your tea or coffee?
I take my coffee black and strong.

Have a wonderful, wonderful weekend!

On Sundays...

On Sundays we brew beer. Well...Bryan brews beer and I take photos of him. This boy and his beer, I swear. We were going to do this last weekend, but there is this weird yeast pack thing (puffy packet in photo #2) that you have to slam really hard so it grows. Or something. And that little baby just wasn't growing. And then this weekend B wakes up and the little pack is as puffed up as can be. And we all know what that means - brew time baby. (!!) So after church we went home and sanitized all of the things (using technical terms here) and B taught me the processes and words and things. Really I got to measure a lot of water and pour things. While he stirred and handled all of the hot cooking. I just really don't think he could have done it alone. Everyone needs their own water pour-er. AmIright?
So we cooked it all up real good and put it into that big carboy so it can have a little fermentation station. And guys the house smelled SO good. Like caramel and just so good!
I think we bottle on Sunday or maybe the next Sunday. (??)

Either way - I'm now a beer expert.

Have you ever attempted to make beer at home? Or anything neat and complicated like this?

St. Patty's Day

Happy St. Pattys Day to you all! I hope you all had wonderful weekends weather celebrating the holiday or not. Like I told you on Friday, I absolutely LOVE St. Patty's Day. And we celebrated the whole weekend with a little Irish Flair. On Sunday my cuz, Jennifer, and a couple of our friends got together to run the JigJog 5K in the morning. We prepared by, ahem, hydrating, and the like. We ran our little hearts out and then they awarded us with an ice-cold beer.
Afterwards we headed over to Blue's Egg for some delicious breakfast. Those stuffed-browns.I can't ever believe how delicious they are! If you can't tell from the picture, I was very excited. And look a bit like a happy child, but that's beside the point.
And do you see those green running pants! Yay for Gap having the perfect JigJog attire!! Later on Saturday I went out for a little Irish lunch at AJ O'Brady's with some friends. Corned beef, black and tans, carbombs...I think you might geddit. ;)
And then I finished off the weekend with a little beer brewing with B yesterday. It was awesome. We should open a brewery. Photos to come on Wednesday.

And the celebration continues tonight -- more corned beef and Guinness?

How was your weekend? Any St. Patty's plans?

Party in the Back

The weekend is herrree! It's here! I am just beyond excited! And on top of the normal weekend excitement it is St. Patty's Day! Only the BEST non-religious holiday! It's my favorite. FAVORITE. It's my excuse to act like I'm actually Irish...not even close. I'm running a 5K in the morning. I haven't really run my last 5K which was ahem 6 months ago. I'll be fiiinnneee! Right...? But they treat us with green beer afterwards!! How could I say no? And then we're off for a little Blue's Egg action and some major Guinness consumption.
(And when I say major I mean like two because really how many of those can you drink without getting super full...I mean, I'll still try. Because I. Love. Guinness.)

Isn't the jacket above suuuper fun? It's an oldie from Anthro. And I love it, guys, love it. I love the open back. It adds a lot. It does however make it really confusing to get dressed. Are you a jacket? Are you a shirt? I usually go with shirt because it's silly as a jacket. Your front stays warm, but your back is all "Hey, wind! Here I am!" However, it is perfect with a nude tank underneath.
So there's that.

Are you into St. Patty's Day? Any plans??
