Doors Open Milwaukee -- Towers and Grain Rooms

After visiting the churches Renée and I polished off our tour with some of the old buildings and towers.
We visited some of the buildings that we had always known growing up.

First stop -- was the Mackie Building/The Grain Exchange. It was built for selling grain back in the early 1900s. Eventually it was bought over and the interior was completely gutted and ruined. In the 1980s it was restored to it's original beauty. Local artists redesigned and repainted according to photographs. Now the building is used as a venue for big events, mainly weddings...Oh those lucky brides!

Although I loved all of the buildings my favorite part was going up into the US Bank Building and the Gaslight Building.
I've seen these buildings almost everyday for my whole life and I finally was able to see that VIEW!

It made me fall in love with my city all over again.

Thanks for having us Doors Open Milwaukee.

Until next year.

  1. That's some seriously fancy buildingage. The ceilings and decoration in those first photos are lovely. I've never been in that building before! Might have to sneak a peek sometime ;)
