Maple Pecan Bacon Popcorn

So if you didn't know, the Oscars were yesterday! As much as I want to say that I watched all of the movies and have a very strong opinion about which movies should win and which actors interpreted the time/storyline/emotion the best...I just really only care about what the actors wear, who performs, the jokes that Ellen Degeneres tells, and the food at the viewing party. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see all of the movies, buuutttt I didn't.
My sister threw an Oscar viewing party (photos to come on Wednesday's post) and she had all of us make a delicious dish that had something to do with one of the movies. I meaaannnn if you can't critique the winners since you don't actually know anything about the movies you might as well gawk at the outfits while wearing a pretty dress and munching on snacks. I didn't necessarily find a recipe that had anything to do with the movies, but it's popcorn, right? Movies, popcorn, you know!

Maple Pecan Bacon Popcorn
Adapted from Epicurious

-8 cups plain popcorn
-1 cup pecans
-1/2 lb bacon, prepared and chopped (about 1/2 cup)
-3/4 stick butter (I used salted--it's what I had)
-1 1/2 cups pure maple syrup
-1/2 tsp salt
-candy thermometer

1. Toss popcorn, pecans, and bacon in large bowl. Set aside.
2. Lightly spray two cookie sheets with cooking spray. Set aside.
3. Melt butter in heavy saucepan over medium heat, add maple syrup and boil until temp reaches 280ยบ F, about 15 minutes.
4. Pour maple syrup concoction over popcorn and mix until spread evenly throughout with lightly oiled spatula. Immediately spread on cookie sheets.
5. Let cool completely, break into pieces, and store in airtight container at cool room temp for up to a week.

Did you watch the Oscars? What do you think, do you really need watch all of the movies before the Oscars? Be honest.

  3. Whaaaaat. This looks awesome. I've suddenly gotten re-hooked on sweet popcorn treats since it's apparently more common for cinemas in the UK to serve 'sweet' popcorn instead of salty... but it has that sugary-salty combination that gets me every time. This recipe looks so good, thanks for sharin'! :D
