Operation "Pretty Hurts" | A New Year's Resolution

Twenty-Fourteen! Welcome! I've been catching up and reading all of my fellow bloggers' blogs and seeing many resolutions. I'm not usually one to do resolutions, but this year I've been inspired by others to take one up.

I'm sure that many of you have heard that the Queen Bey has released a new secret album. And we all know that I just love her. I've been listening to it far too much. Like really. Good thing it's on iTunes because if it were a CD it would already be unusable.
This morning while getting ready "Pretty Hurts" came on. The song is about how women work so hard to make themselves look good and to be perfect, but they shouldn't be trying to fix what's on the outside but what's wrong on the inside. Which we all know is not possible in the slightest, yet we try so hard anyway.

So I'm listening to this while I'm getting ready and I'm thinking, yes, Bey, you know it. Preach.
As I'm putting on eyeliner and mascara. To go to the store.
Why? I've been off of work for two weeks and have been going natural the whole time. So why now make my face?
Truth is I've felt the most beautiful with out all of the pastes and pencils.

I'm sorry, I'm getting a little long-winded and this is probably the most sentimental I've gotten on this blog in a long time so I'll get to it...

My resolution this year is to focus on the natural beauty of this world, the people around me, and myself. The LORD created the place we live in and all in it and he did it just as he wanted. And that in and of itself is beautiful.

So how will I keep up with this throughout the year?
  •  I will personally acknowledge the beauty I see in others by telling them.
  • I am going to keep a running visual record of the beauty I see on Instagram. {#operationprettyhurts}
  • I will post photos every so often on c/oMKE -- sometimes with an explanation and sometimes with out.
  • As for the personal aspect -- I want the times that I don't wear make-up to outweigh the times I do during the week. Hopefully when you see me I will look like the photos above--maybe with a little lip color--pinching my own cheeks to get a little rosy.  ;)
I'm hoping this will help me to gain a new perspective of the world we live in and maybe to inspire some of you to do the same.
And all due to a little song by YoncĂ©.

Here's to 2014!

  1. I love this post. We tend to get so focused on what the outside world DEEMS pretty or beautiful or desirable, that we tend to forget the beauty that radiates deep within us. Thank you for writing such a lovely post. I look forward to following your project throughout the year ♥

  3. Oh, I really love this. I hate that I use makeup to cover up insecurities and have been able to slowly let this go, but it's a process. You're totally right though about applying makeup just to run errands. What am I trying to prove?? You're a beautiful lady and I love that you're looking to affirm beauty in others!
